My Thoughts on AI
My Thoughts on AI

I've always had a love for art, ever since I could scribble on a desk in kindergarten. I took as many art classes as possible I could throughout the years and eventually learned some board drafting, how to use AutoCAD and Inventor and some 3d printing in high school. Graduated and was ready to jump headfirst when the pandemic took hold. Company I was talking with went under and I was now just one of the thousands of people now jobless. I spent the first few months sending dozens of emails, but with the pandemic taking hold I couldn't afford to wait and decided it was for the best to go down another path. Might have lost career opportunities, but the passion for the 3d modeling was very much alive. All I had was an old laptop at the time, but nevertheless I downloaded blender and let the Guru open my eyes. I had all these crazy ideas in my head that I could model, only for my execution of them to be downright atrocious. But I was loving it. I was always learning some new lighting technique, or a new key shortcut to constantly keep wanting to get better and learn more. It's an incredible feeling to look back at your first projects and remember that this where the dream began. Which brings me to the Topic of AI Art.
I'll admit it's a bit disheartening to work a week on a project, getting all the angles correct and compositing and whatnot, just for it to get lost in the sea of AI. It makes me look back on my journey how I got here and how little it means now that a few word prompts can generate "art".
Where's the pride, satisfaction of a well-done project? Instead of the artist's name should we just have a list of the prompts they used? There's no process to show, no story to tell, no history or any meaning behind it, just text. That all being said, I urge Art station to listen to the community and make a stance on AI. On a different note, I would like to acknowledge how incredible far the AI technology has come. While I don't believe it should be on Art station, I do think there are other sites that probably welcome that technology. Just my two cents on the matter, carry on!
